"I have bought a number of these on several occasions to use as family presents and they seemed to go down very well.
The cutter is good value for money and the only (very minor) issue is that I would prefer slots in the ferrules rather than round holes.
In the main, I used Turner Retreat’s Panga Panga and Maple for the one piece (Ulu style) handle and storage block. These are dense timbers and provide a good contrast.
Using pieces left over from previous projects, I did one with an Olive Wood handle and a Sapele block which proved to be an attractive mix.
(The chefs in our family find the long, one piece, ulu-type handle is more practical in the kitchen than the mezzaluna style cutter as it can be used with one or two hands)
I also made a chopping board with a hollow similar to the curve of the cutter but this was a fail which I will eventually put down as yet another learning experience. The board’s hollow curve stops the cutter from rocking and therefore stops the cutter’s chopping effect; so a flat chopping board is best.
A word of caution – If you do make one and show it off, expect a number of orders from those of your nearest and dearest.
On a practical note, these come with absolutely no instructions and therefore you need to know that the cutter’s tangs require two 7mmØ holes set 100mm apart (centre to centre / pitch circle diameter) and probably best drilled before you start turning. The ferrules require a 15mmØ spigot. You will also need a vice to hold the blade in place whilst you press the handle into position. The blade is best held in place between two pieces of wood as a metal to metal contact will certainly damage the blade’s shiny surface."

"Made it as a Christmas present with mango wood handles.
Looked incredibly beautiful. Easy to turn with limited experience.
Makes an excellent gift and the blade is razor sharp.
(I cut my finger by getting it out of the package. COMPLETELY MY FAULT THOUGH)
The blade has a cardboard sheath over it for posting."
