Intrinsic Wood Dye - New Smaller 125ml Bottles
The Intrinsic Colour Collection is a set of distinctive and atmospheric wood dyes in shades designed by pro UK woodturner Martin Saban-Smith.
These shades penetrate well. Enjoy a fantastic depth of colour on your work by using multiple layers of dye. For lighter shades, thin them with water or create your own colours by mixing them.
Each colour sold separately.
Colour and Aroma
Waterbased colour, black in the bottle. No noticeable aroma.
Container
Supplied in a recycled 125ml Boston bottle.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, ideally between 10° and 30°C (50° and 90°F) Where possible. Protect from extreme heat and freezing. Keep out of direct sunlight.
Longevity – Use By
Kept according to instructions, you can expect the product to last indefinitely.

Colour Details
Black: Deeply penetrating, this black makes a perfect background when sanded back. Also great in tiny amounts for darkening the other colours. Use for the blackening of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Burnt Orange: Almost terracotta in colour, this shade blends brilliantly with Honey and Flame and Ruby. Use for warming up the colour of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Earth: A warm brown, like chestnut. Makes a great undercoat or accent colour. Blends well with the tones of Forest Green, Pear Green and Honey. Use for applying a warm brown colour to woodturning or flat woodwork items.
Flame: True to its name, this shade is a very bright and fiery orange. A perfect accompanying colour for creating stunning sunset-themed projects. Use for adding a vibrant orange shade to decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Forest Green: Dark green, a lot like Jade. It blends well with Straw and Honey. An excellent natural shade that also blends well with Earth. Use for adding rich green colour to decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Honey: A glorious rich yellow. Works superbly as a bold single colour blended with Flame, Burnt Orange and Ruby or as a ‘wash’ overcoat. Use for the colouring of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Midnight Blue: Deep night sky blue that catches a hint of purple on quilted woods. Blend with Plum and Sky Blue for super nighttime schemes. Use for the colouring of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items in a dark blue shade.
Pear Green: A very pleasant yellowy-green. Blends well with Forest Green, the blues and Honey. Use for the colouring of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Plum: Sumptuous purple looks quite royal, lending an air of expense to your work. It blends with Midnight and Sky Blue. You can try using with Ruby, too. Use for the colouring of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Ruby: A rich red, Ruby adds an opulent shade that blends well with Burnt Orange, Flame and Honey. For a vibrant shade, use at least two coats. Use for the colouring of decorative woodturning and other woodwork items.
Sky Blue: A fairly bright blue that mixes magnificently with Midnight Blue and Plum. This shade was previously known as Stone Blue. Use for dying decorative woodturning and other woodwork items a sky blue colour.
White: Perfect for whitewashing your work or turning the other colours into a more pastel shade. Use with caution. Use for adding a whitewash to decorative woodturning and other woodwork items. They are also used for turning the other shades of Intrinsic Colours to pastel shades.
How to Use
Sand your work perfectly to at least 400 grit;
- Shake bottle before use;
- Apply at least two coats using cloth, paper towel, brush or airbrush or other media allowing to dry thoroughly between coats;
- (Optional) Apply your Oil and allow to cure;
- Seal the wood an appropriate sealer, and allow to dry thoroughly;
- Lightly cut the sealer back;
- Apply your preferred finish.
